Why Consistency Matters in Wellness Care

In this episode, Dr. Westley Kuns of Kuns Chiropractic Clinic in Gresham, Oregon, tackles one of the most common questions he hears in practice: why does consistency matter so much in wellness care?

Many patients come in only when pain strikes, get relief, and then disappear until the next flare-up. Dr. Kuns breaks down why that cycle works against your long-term health and what a more proactive approach actually looks like.

Whether you are new to chiropractic care or a long-time patient, this episode will help you understand how regular, consistent visits can be the difference between managing symptoms and building lasting wellness.

Hey there, and welcome back. I’m doctor Westley Kuns, and this is the Kuns Chiropractic podcast, coming to you from right here in Gresham, Oregon. Today I want to talk about something that comes up almost every single week in my office. And that is, why does consistency matter so much when it comes to your wellness care?

Now, here’s the thing. A lot of people come in when they’re hurting. Their back is out, their neck is stiff, they can barely turn their head. And we get them feeling better. That’s great. That’s what we’re here for. But then, life gets busy. They feel good. They stop coming in. And a few months later, guess who’s back? Same pain, same tension, sometimes even worse than before.

So let me break this down for you, because I think once you understand what’s actually happening in your body, it all starts to make a lot more sense.

Your spine and your nervous system are not static things. They are constantly adapting. Every day, your body is responding to stress, to posture, to how you slept, to how long you sat at your desk. Over time, small imbalances start to build up. Little by little. And your body compensates. It shifts, it tightens, it braces. And that compensation, over weeks and months, is what leads to that deep, nagging pain that feels like it came out of nowhere.

Here’s what’s interesting. It did not come out of nowhere. It was building the whole time. You just didn’t feel it until it crossed a threshold.

That’s where consistent care comes in. When we see you regularly, even when you’re feeling good, we’re catching those small shifts before they become big problems. We’re keeping your spine moving the way it’s supposed to. We’re supporting your nervous system so it can do its job well.

Think of it like this. You wouldn’t only brush your teeth when they hurt, right? You do it every day to prevent problems from building up. Chiropractic wellness care works the same way. It’s maintenance. It’s prevention. It’s staying ahead of the curve instead of always playing catch-up.

Now, what does that actually look like in practice? For most of my patients who are in a good place, we’re talking about coming in maybe once or twice a month. That’s it. It doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment. But that regular check-in makes a real difference in how people feel day to day.

Here’s some practical advice you can start using right now, even between visits. First, pay attention to how you’re sitting. Most of us sit way too long without moving, and that puts a lot of stress on the lower spine. Set a reminder to get up and move around every thirty to forty-five minutes. Second, stay hydrated. The discs in your spine actually depend on water to stay healthy and absorb shock. Simple, but powerful. And third, notice your stress levels. Stress has a huge physical effect on your body. Your muscles tighten, your posture suffers. Even just a few minutes of deep breathing or a short walk can make a difference.

Now, if it’s been a while since you’ve been in, or if you’ve been feeling that familiar tension creeping back, that’s your body telling you something. Don’t wait until it gets bad. That’s exactly the cycle we’re trying to break.

Come on in and let us take a look. Whether you’re dealing with something specific or just want to make sure everything is moving well, that’s what we’re here for. We’ll do a thorough evaluation, talk through what we find, and put together a plan that actually fits your life.

Consistency doesn’t mean you have to live at the chiropractor’s office. It just means staying connected to your health, and not waiting for a crisis to take action.

Thank you so much for listening today. I really do appreciate you spending a few minutes with me. If you have questions, or if you’re ready to schedule, just give us a call or stop by. We are right here in Gresham, and we would love to see you. This is doctor Westley Kuns at Kuns Chiropractic Clinic, reminding you that feeling good is not just for when something goes wrong. It’s something you can build and maintain every single day. Take care of yourselves, and I’ll talk to you next time.
